Fool's Gold 07:05
A long, long time ago, in the southern lands. They worked the fields of gold, with their broken hands. Working for some kind of freedom, paying with their souls. Waiting, just to grow old. Picking at the virgin rock, digging at the dirt, Taking away the light within, ignore the hurt. Looking for that Lady Luckshine, Deep dark and cold, Digging for the Fool’s Gold. Digging, Dying, Dreaming and Crying, Driving deep ‘til you grow old, In the search for the Fool’s Gold. They are scheming, dreaming, feeling, Searching for their gold. They can never, ever find it For their hearts are cold.

One Day 04:11
One day, maybe this day, I’ll tell you true. Someday, maybe today, out of the blue. I’ll find the words to say, to ask you please top stay, never leave my side another day. Caught like a moth in a bright night trap, No turning away, My thoughts fly around but I can’t make a sound, No turning away, from the words, I’ll say - one day. Some day, oh please anyway, Find the words to say what I mean. Love play, only to stay, Hold the picture in my head to see. You’ll look at me surprised, a far look in your eyes, and much to my surprise, you’ll say you’ll stay.

I am here beside you now, closer than your skin, Listen and you will her me calling from within. Night has no darkness here, Nightfall will bring no fear. Don’t move so restlessly, you cannot hear my song. Be still and listen for a while, Your dreams will soon begin. Visions for a Prophet, please to see the king, All the Dreams of a Vagrant, can they mean anything? What are you thinking now, Your thoughts are mine to see. These ghosts you feel somehow, approach reality. Wishes fade as they often do, dreams shared are dreams come true. There may be no rest in peace, you will be first, but you may be least. This much is true at last, your dreams will live in me. Rest Well, Dream On, Never making a sound. Who Knows? I know, What may be found Behind a mask of sleep, live words are hidden deep. Never mind they cannot be heard, you will know them, I can share them, these Vagrant dreams. Daybreak will show the way, nightfall will bring you here.

Start your prayers boys, say them loud, sing them proud and strong. Storm clouds bar our way. Not far to shore boys, Just one more day, so they say, the storm is coming to play. Hear that wind boys, hear the engines: Screaming. There’s music on the wind a song must have some meaning. Keep battling on boys, all night long, hold on tight and strong Look for the last safe light on the sea. ch. From the west to the east, the storm has been released. Onward we sail, into the gale, no sign, no rest, no peace. Keep her head for the shore, though wind and ocean roar, look for the last safe light on the sea. Fear the storm boys, hear the waves roar never-ending There’s a light in the sky, there must be someone sending Keep your face to the light boys Keep that hope in your eye, it might just save your life if it’s the last safe light on the sea

Oh sweet poverty, we got plenty of that. Oh, it’s no mystery it’s an unmistakeable fact; that we got no money, no hope can we see, but we got sweet poverty - we got plenty of that.

Sundown 08:21
Shaking in the sunlight, in the furnace of the day, A distant town is baking brown, On the horizon far away. A jumble of red rooftops, walls push on the clay, Under a sky so far and wide, can’t ride it in a day. A rider is approaching, stained with sweat and frown, he’s been riding hard for days to the edge of Sundown. Some towns they hold stories, others they tell tales of years ago and rivers flow, of townsfolk long ago. But Sundown hides a secret, a darkness of the past, maybe the time has come to speak of it at last. The rider is approaching, it’s the talk of the town, he’s part of the tale of the end of Sundown.

about

This album recording is a very important project for us. The basic idea is to expand the songs - both in terms of their scope and in the shape of the band that plays them. As a duo, there’s a limit to what we can do live before we fall over. If we were possessed of a few more hands and feet each that would be very useful - but was!
It might not be possible live, but it certainly is in the recording studio - which is exactly what this album is.

The usual guitars and flutes have been joined by the rest of the band. The bassist turned up, as did the drummer and the keyboard payer. There might even be an extra lead guitarist in the studio sometimes.
So Fool’s Gold has become - for one night only - a five-piece band.

The vast majority of this album is recorded by live musicians - helped out by a bit of sample manipulation and a bit of drum programming.
There’s also a lot of midnight oil, lots of software learning, and lots of coffee.
OK, it wasn’t always coffee.
